Campfire Cooking and BBQs

Back to basics with traditional guiding. Great activity for ‘I’m a Celebrity get me out of here!’ themed events and challenges. We have 2 table high fire places one in each cooking/ fire shelter for use by groups booked on the camping field/ chalet. See billy can/pots list in camp store inventory.

Additionally we have materials for creating approx 4-5 alter fires available from the camp store, including: metal wire crates to create bases, metal sheets for fire base, bricks (in cooking shelters and around fireplaces) and wire grills of supporting cooking pots. These are automatically a chalet booking activity as they can be used for campers but cottage bookings can enquiry about availability as the alter fire equipment is currently not extensively used.

If doing camp fires please either use the existing fire places on site (if booked on field/ chalet), use stands in cooking/ fire shelters, or use alter fires on a level surface (a minimum of 4 m away from tents and 5m away from buildings).
There is a fireplace in the Adventure Play Area but please liaise with other site users and do not use in prolonged dry periods.
Strictly no fires in woodland as it is protected by a Woodland Preservation Order. Please see notes under BBQs and Fires; Fires; and Woodland and trees.
No felling or cutting of timber/ wood/ twigs from the woodland.
There is a plentiful supply of already felled trees within the woodland please collect and use, see notice board in camp store to see recommendations as to where to collect from based on how long the wood has been seasoning and ease of access! Please do not burn logs larger than 25 cm diameter as these are used for seating, play and artwork on site. Feel free to roll more down from wood to use as seats and store at the edge of the field or on paved fireplaces to allow access for grass cutting.

Surplus wood can be stored behind either fire shelter.
Please do bring your own ‘scrap’ wood also but please leave nails and screws safely stored if leaving surpluses.
