Accidents & Emergencies During your Stay

We really hope you enjoy your stay and everyone stays safe and well, but accidents do happen sometimes.

Please follow the guidelines to ensure that any accidents are reported to the Management Team or where necessary the HSE/RIDDOR.  This is so that we can carry out an investigation and act on any findings.

First Aid Kits are available in the Kitchens in both the Cottage and the Chalet.  There is also a kit in the Camp Store.

What to Do?

  • Prioritize Safety & Medical Care: Immediately get first aid or emergency medical care, even for minor injuries.

  • Report the Incident: Inform your manager or supervisor immediately.  If it is serious, call the emergency services (Ambulance/Police/Fire Brigade) on 999.  There is a landline in the Leaders Bedroom for this purpose.

  • Record the Accident: Ensure the incident is formally recorded in the Accident & Emergencies Log.  Please see the link below. This is crucial for evidence, such as for potential personal injury claims.

  • Gather Evidence: Document the accident scene, including taking photos or videos of hazards or faulty equipment, and get contact details from any witnesses.

  • Some accidents must be reported such as serious injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences to the HSE under RIDDOR.

  • Keep Records: Keep a diary of your treatment, symptoms, and any receipts for expenses.

Important Notes

  • Time Limits: In England and Wales, most personal injury claims must be initiated within three years of the accident.

  • Do Not Accept Blame: Avoid apologizing or accepting responsibility for the accident, as this can affect future claims.
